Well, it’s that time!
I spent the first 15+ years of my career in the financial services sector, helping build a large law firm through my abilities in both technology and law.
I built, scaled, and ran the firm’s IT department, and personally developed what’s become an award-winning, industry-leading SaaS solution – earning experience across the entire product lifecycle, and learning on the job about things like test-driven development, agile vs. waterfall SDLC, and regression vs. unit testing.
SQL Server in particular became my calling card: I designed, developed, and supported SQL Server databases used by web-based and client-facing applications, as well as databases for warehousing and reporting purposes.
At the same time, I pulled double-duty as an actual attorney. I led high-performing legal teams managing caseload for timelines, budget, and quality of legal work product, and built a name representing financial institutions in real estate, bankruptcy, and regulatory compliance matters.
Basically, I didn’t sleep.
By 2015, it was obvious I could no longer continue to serve two masters: I either needed to choose a career in law, or a career in IT.
And, the choice was easy – being a lawyer was merely something I did, while building technical solutions was actually something I enjoyed. SQL Server development, in particular, has always been my passion.
So, I left the practice of law behind, choosing instead to focus full-time on the SaaS application I had developed, while also working as a freelance SQL developer and technical consultant.
What I didn’t know at the time: I’d end up like a retired baseball player who misses the camaraderie, teamwork, and shared successes that come with being in the dugout.
Now, over 2 years after I started out on my solo adventure, it is time to head back into a team environment. I miss the dugout.
North Dallas SQL Developer For Hire
So, this is the now: I’m a free agent looking for a team to take a chance on me.
I’ve been a CTO, I’ve grown and managed an IT department, I’ve coded and run an enterprise-level B2B SaaS solution, and I have 15+ years of hands-on experience with SQL Server development and administration. I also helped cultivate a multi-million dollar client roster, implemented a complete enterprise risk management program (including IT security and BC/DR), and have significant contract management and vendor management chops.
But, here’s the thing about all that stuff I’ve done: With my career pivot, it’s basically irrelevant.
I made my name in a domain I chose to exit. While many of my technical and soft skills are transferable, I’m fully aware that more senior roles like I’ve held generally require domain expertise I simply don’t have.
Instead, I am intentionally focusing on my favorite technical skill – being a North Dallas SQL developer – because I’m chasing a future rooted in what I enjoy most.
So, I’m not Aaron Rodgers or Antonio Brown as a free agent. I’m more like a pretty good rugby player who’s got a shot at making someone’s NFL roster as a punter – and who’s both humble and hungry to prove himself, again.
If you’re an employer in the North Dallas area (Frisco, Plano, Allen, McKinney, Richardson, Addison, Carrollton, Irving, or Lewisville) – or have a remote-working IT position to fill – let’s connect, particularly if you have needs centered on SQL Server.
As a North Dallas SQL developer for hire, I’m ready to crush it. Again.
